Nearly 200 professionals participated in the international seminar “Connected and at Risk: Cybersecurity Related to Sexual Crimes,” organized by the Puerto Montt Sexual Offenses Investigation Brigade of the PDI and the San Sebastián University (USS), Patagonia campus.
The event, held in the USS Aula Magna, brought together psychosocial teams, school coexistence staff, administrators from educational institutions in the Los Lagos Region, as well as officials and professionals from public institutions related to children and adolescents. ts goal was to provide tools and up-to-date knowledge on sexual crimes in digital environments, addressing topics such as the production, storage, and distribution of child pornography, grooming, and both national and transnational criminal activity associated with these practices.
Among the guest speakers, Nicolás Pietrasanta, Head of Research and Public Policy at Fundación Amparo y Justicia, stood out with his presentation titled “Impact of the Videorecorded Investigative Interview on the Prosecution of Sexual Crimes Against Children and Adolescents.” During his presentation, he spoke about the positive effects of this technique on the criminal justice process.
“It was a valuable opportunity to reflect on the ongoing challenges posed by sexual crimes in digital environments and the need to strengthen interinstitutional collaboration to protect children. I had the chance to connect with people who are committed to preventing these forms of victimization and improving the system’s response,” said Nicolás Pietrasanta.
The seminar featured the participation of prominent national and international professionals, including Macarena Aramburu, researcher at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security; Carlos Colmenero Rodríguez, Regional Director of Operations in South America; Mauricio Araya Ortiz, commissioner of the PDI Cybercrime Brigade; Camila Astraín Rubio, researcher at the Center for Security and Organized Crime Studies; and Ana María Agüero Velásquez, Deputy Prosecutor at the Los Lagos Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
This training event is part of a series of activities jointly organized by the PDI and San Sebastián University. Since 2023, both institutions have trained over 800 people in matters related to sexual crimes, consolidating a collaborative effort aimed at strengthening the prevention, detection, and prosecution of these offenses.
