Proposals to Reduce Secondary Victimization in Children and Adolescents Victims of Crime

In 2008, Fundación Amparo y Justicia, in collaboration with the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, convened an Interinstitutional Working Group to identify and reach consensus on some best practices that could be applied in judicial processes involving children and adolescents who were victims of sexual crimes. This group, organized into committees, was composed of members from the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Ministry of Justice, Public Defense, Ministry of Health, Carabineros de Chile, Police of Investigations, Legal Medical Service, National Service for Minors, Judiciary, Fundación Amparo y Justicia, and prominent academics. This document outlines the theoretical and practical foundations, along with the recommendations agreed upon during these experiences, supplemented by conclusions drawn from international seminars and the diagnostic study (MIDE-UC) organized by the foundation.
