In 2008, Fundación Amparo y Justicia requested the Center for Measurement of the Catholic University of Chile (MIDE-UC) to conduct a study on secondary victimization that children and adolescents (CNA), victims of sexual abuse, may experience as they go through the criminal justice system. This study, based on surveys conducted with 390 adult caregivers of CNA victims of sexual assaults from the Metropolitan, Valparaíso, and Bío-Bío regions, aimed to analyze their perception of the investigation and judicial processes in these cases. The goal was to identify possible weaknesses within the criminal justice system. The results indicated that the moments in which CNA experienced the highest secondary victimization were during the reporting of the abuse, physical examinations, and testifying in court.
