International literature has highlighted the lack of reliable and comparable data that would allow for an adequate evaluation of public policies related to justice systems, particularly in terms of the participation of children and adolescents (C&A). One limitation of these evaluations is their primary focus on monitoring the “provider side,” overlooking the experiences of users, especially C&A, due to the methodological and ethical challenges associated with their participation in these processes. This report reviews some efforts made both nationally and internationally regarding the inclusion of C&A perspectives in the evaluation of justice system functioning. It presents some of the methodological characteristics of the reviewed studies, their best practices concerning ethical and procedural aspects, as well as the difficulties and limitations they have faced in both design and fieldwork.
