Needs for Advanced Training in Investigative Interviewing and Intermediation

The lack of research and specialization on obtaining testimonies from victims in situations of particular vulnerability and/or belonging to specific groups has limited the identification of needs and special support that can be provided to these victims to facilitate their right of access to justice. In order to contribute to the training of professionals in charge of obtaining testimonies from children and adolescents (CNA) within the framework of Law 21.057, and thus improve the conditions in which they participate in investigative interviews or judicial statements, this study explored the main difficulties these professionals have encountered, focusing on characteristics of the CNA that are perceived as particularly complex. From the perspective of instructors, some general difficulties that interviewers and intermediaries have faced in carrying out these tasks are presented, along with characteristics or particular groups that pose special complexity for them, and needs and suggestions for advanced training in these matters.
