In the context of the support provided by Fundación Amparo y Justicia to families of victims of rape with homicide, and as part of the accompaniment given to families during the petition for the parole of the convicts of these crimes, it becomes relevant to contribute to raising awareness and influencing the media and decision-makers regarding the granting of these post-penitentiary benefits. This document reviews internationally recognized guidelines regularly used in both the press and victim assistance services to prevent secondary victimization that can be caused by media coverage of such events, affecting crime victims and their loved ones. The report first presents the measures used to guide victims in their interactions with the press, and then outlines actions that media institutions can take to avoid harming the victims.
