The United Nations Minimum Rules for the Administration of Juvenile Justice (“Beijing Rules”) were adopted by the General Assembly through Resolution 40/33 on November 28, 1985. They constitute basic general guidelines aimed at promoting the well-being of children and adolescents to the greatest extent possible, in order to minimize the number of cases to be addressed by juvenile justice systems and, in turn, minimize the harm that any type of intervention usually causes them.
