The Penal Code and other legal frameworks in our legislation establish the classification and penalties for sexual offenses and other serious crimes included in the catalog of Law 21.057 on Videotaped Interviews, while the Criminal Procedure Code regulates the processes established for the prosecution of different types of crimes. Below is a list of laws that have modified these regulations, updating the classification, sanctions, and prosecution processes related to these crimes:
• Law No. 19.617 that amends the Penal Code, the Criminal Procedure Code, and other legal frameworks regarding the crime of rape: Published in July 1999.
• Law No. 19.927 that amends various codes regarding child pornography offenses: Published in January 2004.
• Law 20.057 that classifies the crimes of human smuggling and trafficking and establishes rules for their prevention and more effective criminal prosecution: Published in April 2011.
• Law 20.526 that punishes the sexual harassment of minors, virtual child pornography, and the possession of child pornography material: Published in August 2011.
• Law 20.685 that increases penalties and restricts penitentiary benefits in cases of sexual offenses against minors: Published in August 2013.
• Law 21.153 that amends the Penal Code to classify the crime of sexual harassment in public spaces: Published in May 2019.
