This brief document presents international technical guidelines on the consequences that media information can have on crime victims and their families, outlining the reasons to avoid publications that violate the right to privacy of those affected, in order to prevent secondary victimization. The document is based on the Justice Manual on the Use and Application of the Basic Principles of Justice for Victims of Crime and Abuse of Power, developed by the United Nations (UN, 1996).
