The Declaration of Basic Principles of Justice for Victims of Crime and Abuse of Power was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in its Resolution 40/34 of November 29, 1985. It establishes concepts such as victims of crime and victims of abuse of power, access to justice and fair treatment, reparation, compensation, and assistance for them. Additionally, a manual was created for the use and application of the protocol: “Manual on Justice for the Use and Application of the Declaration of Basic Principles of Justice for Victims of Crime and Abuse of Power.”
