Law No. 21.090, which creates the Undersecretariat for Children, amends Law No. 20.530 on the Ministry of Social Development and Family, and amends other legal frameworks, was published in April 2018 with the aim of creating this undersecretariat under the Ministry of Social Development and Family, headed by the Undersecretary for Children. The Undersecretary is responsible for collaborating with the ministry on the matters mentioned in this law, especially regarding the Comprehensive Child Protection Subsystem “Chile Crece Contigo.” The law also establishes the Civil Society Council for Children, an entity responsible for proposing national child policy and its action plan, as well as participating in the development of studies and research on child issues.
